Last night we had our last Miss Orem Workshop for 2012. It was a workshop/p.j. party. The guest speaker was Danica Olsen, Miss Utah 2011.
She talked about her pageant experience from being Miss Tooele, then Miss UVU and finally Miss Utah. She shared with us her ABC's and expounded on each one of them; attitude, believe in yourself, and courage or faith. The bracelet that she wears is a gift, and inscribed on it, it says, "Believe in yourself." She sees it during the course of the day and it is a powerful reminder.
She told us she has so many great memories and experiences of her journey and no regrets, because at each level of competition she brought the best version of herself. And that's the best you can do - bring the best version of yourself.
Danica quoted one of my favorite quotes by Marianne Williamson, “Our deepest fear
is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Another great Danica quote of the night, "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time."
It's been a great season of 12 incredible and informative Miss Orem Workshops. Thanks Miss Orem Committee Members for sharing your time and talents. Thanks Danica Olsen, Miss Utah 2011 for being a part of our journey.
