Meet Artie Hemphill, the emcee for the Miss Orem Outstanding Teen and Miss Orem Scholarship Pageant competition this Saturday, April 21st, at Orem High School.Artie is part of a band called, "Artie Hemphill and the Iron Horse Band." They sing country western music and WON the FIRST PRIZE, out of over 400 contestants, in the Stadium of Fire Talent contest, July 2nd, 2011, winning $10,00 prize money. You can see his videos on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JkB_T0--Is), or like him on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/ironhorseband), but I met up with him at LaJolla Groves in the Shops at the Riverwoods.
We all had dinner together; my Miss Orem Director, Kim Harris; Artie and his wife April; and my parents, Wallace and Annette Harkness.
Artie spent 10 years in Nashville, Tennessee writing, singing, and recording country music and then, with his wife and 3 children, moved back home to Utah six years ago.
Artie has power, energy, and drive in his rock-solid lead vocals, rouding out the musical mix of the band playing acoustic rhythm guitar. Come and see him perform this Saturday night at the Miss Orem Outstanding Teen and Miss Orem pageants.
Love, Hannah Harkness
