Beautification project!

Orem's beautification committee heard that Miss Orem is a great resource for service projects. So they got in contact with my director and asked me to beautify the flower bed in front of the City Center.

Since my platform is "Create the Good," you can imagine how excited I was to put this platform into action!! I called Mountain View's and Orem High's Student Body Presidents and asked them to recruit their student councils to come help us beautify this area! I was so pleased with the turn out. Getting people of all ages involved in service has countless benefits. We were able to witness a few of those benefits as we got to know each other and worked together to complete this project.

It started off as a grassy mess, so we weeded the daylights out of it!

Yes, gardening clothes and a crown is a strange combination...but I guess it comes with the territory.

The success of this project would not have been possible without the incredible assistance from my mother!!! She knows just about everything about gardening so she was a spectacular woman to have on the team.

Thanks so much to everybody who helped out with this project! Especially to Cooks who worked with us so well to get all the plants we needed at a great price.

Many hands make light work! We were a great team, even though not everyone could stay the whole time.
I am so excited for these plants to grow and fill in! They've got a great start already.
The point of service is to give all you can. The point is not to be seen by others, and it's not to get glory. It is to better those around you with a selfless and positive attitude. That's what being Miss Orem is to me :)
